4 Ways To Get Back Into Your Home If You're Locked Out

Few things draw the ire of a frustrated person more than getting locked out of their house. Well, there's no use crying over spilled milk. If you're locked out of your house, the first things you should is attempt to get back into your home. There are a variety of different methods for getting back into your home which you have at your disposal.

Call On A Lock Smith

The easiest and most obvious answer to the question, "How am I going to back into my house?" is, "Call on the services of a locksmith." A locksmith can easily grant you access back into your abode for a small fee. There are a few ways in which a locksmith can make his or her way into your home. Most locksmiths carry with them a master key which allows them to unlock most doors, which is most likely how they will enter your home.

Plastic Card

A plastic card, such as a credit card or a non-essential ID, can help you get into your home, provided that you're dealing with a spring lock. A plastic card won't be able to get you into a door that is locked via a deadbolt or other more robust locking systems. It is recommended that you use a non-essential ID, due to the fact that your plastic card can be damaged using this method. Place your plastic card vertically in between the door and the frame and slide down to where the lock is located. Move the card back and forth between the lock and door, effectively "jimmying" the lock open.

Screwdriver and Window Method

If you have access to a screwdriver, you can use it to pry open your window and climb in from there. Place the flat end of the screwdriver in between the window frame and pane. Using the handle, push upwards on the screwdriver, "jimmying" the window open for you to be able to enter into your home. If your window has a screen, remove it before crawling through so you do not cause any damage to your window.

Hidden Key

This trick is risky, since it is quite well known these days, but it is the single easiest way to access your house. You can hide an extra key around your apartment, such as under a welcome mat, just in case you lock yourself outside.

Locking yourself out of your home can be a frustrating experience. Luckily, there are some ways that you can rectify the situation and easily get yourself back into the loving arms of your house or apartment.

For a locksmith, contact a company such as Action Lock & Safe.

Improving Our Entryway With New Locks

As soon as we moved into a new house, I realized that the front door was going to be a problem. The door had an older deadbolt that required a key, and I knew that our kids wouldn't be able to keep track of their copies for very long. To ward off lock-outs and frustrating issues, we decided to talk with a locksmith about replacing our older version with a brand new electronic deadbolt. After the change was made, getting into our home was a breeze. Because nobody needed keys, our kids could come and go as they needed to, without jeopardizing our home security.
