3 Creative Spots In Your Yard To Hide Your Spare Key

If you are tired of getting locked out of your house, or you simply want to make sure that it never happens to you, you are going to want to consider some different places in your yard that would be the perfect hiding space for a spare key. To help you with this, you are going to want to check out the following three suggestions of places you can hide your spare key.

In The Bird Feeder

Simply empty out all of the bird feed and then gently wipe out the bottom of it in order to remove any dirt or dust that settled from the feed. Use strong packing tape to tape your key to the bottom of the inside of the feeder. Once that is in place, add the feed and make sure that it is enough to completely cover the key. Just make sure that you are checking on the level of bird feed in the container every couple of days. This way, the feed will never get so low that other people are able to spot the spare key.

Under The Stepping Stone

The first thing you will want to do is to place your spare key in a plastic sandwich bag and then seal it up. This will protect the key from becoming rusted from moisture in the ground. After you have done that, you can lay the key flat under the stepping stone. Just make sure that the neighbors are not out in the yard and that there is not anyone walking down the street that might spot you placing the spare key under the stepping stone.

In The Flower Pot

Place your spare house key in an old prescription medication bottle. Then dig a hole in the soil in the flower pot and place the bottle in there. You will need to make sure that the hole is deep enough so that the top of the medication bottle is completely covered. Then, to help you remember the exact location of the bottle, you will want to place a small stone, marble, or decoration over the location of the key. This way, you will not have to completely empty the flower pot when you need to desperately find the key.

With those few suggestions in mind, you should have a much easier time making sure that you are always able to get back in your home should you accidentally lock yourself out.

If you still get locked out or cannot find your spare key, make sure to contact a local locksmith service, such as Rahn's Best Lock Service.

Improving Our Entryway With New Locks

As soon as we moved into a new house, I realized that the front door was going to be a problem. The door had an older deadbolt that required a key, and I knew that our kids wouldn't be able to keep track of their copies for very long. To ward off lock-outs and frustrating issues, we decided to talk with a locksmith about replacing our older version with a brand new electronic deadbolt. After the change was made, getting into our home was a breeze. Because nobody needed keys, our kids could come and go as they needed to, without jeopardizing our home security.
